Cody's story is not big one by itself.  He is a young, healthy, active little guy and he got a home fairly quickly. The real story of Cody is the other circumstances surrounding his pickup.  Frank Walker called and asked if I could take one little guy.  We would get him up at the dog show in Dixon.

It turns out that Cody was one of five Cairns to be placed in rescue.  It was a situation that comes up with some frequency in Rescue, an owner had died, the spouse was in a nursing home and unable to deal with the dogs, another family member took over the dogs but was just not up to the task.

A former club member heard about them, took them in hand.  Got them to the local vet and a groomer, so they were in some sort of reasonable condition. They had to be almost completely clipped to give their coats a fair start.  Then he contacted Frank & Bobbie and asked Rescue for some help.  We all met at the dog show at Dixon that weekend.

We took Cody, Frank & Bobbie Walker took three others, and one would stay around for some continuing vet care.  The last one did come into Rescue after his care was under control. At this point, Frank and Bobbie have successfully has placed the other four dogs. The surge of 5 dogs to put into Rescue was a significant demand.

Cody went on to share the house of a young couple and another Cairn, looking for a buddy.

Cody was returned after placement by the  couple whose personal situation fell apart with the dotcom collapse, just a little more than a year after his first placement.  He is a small, active, neutered 8 year old male.  The gray around his eyes and mouth belie his real personality. He is and acts younger than he looks.   Easy to get along with, he is currently doing fine in a mix of male/female, neutered/unneutered dogs.  He has a reputation as an escape artist, who will need a secure backyard and home.  He does well on-leash and is fine around children.   While active inside, he will eventually snuggle up to a warm leg on the couch for the evening.  It takes a while to gain his trust but a hand with food in it is always welcome Came with a reputation of getting along with c*ts but he doesn't believe his own reputation.  He is definitely prey driven and looks to be a great candidate for earning AKC titles in Earthdog.

Cody is our first direct placement through this web site.  His adopters decided that after having two other Cairns, each for 15 years, one after the other, that one year without a Cairn is too long.  After doing a web search, he espied the little guy on our pages and sent an e-mail immediately.  With 30 years of living with Cairns, there was no question about their suitability as an adopters.  So, this weekend, Cody took a trip to Santa Rosa to meet someone special, someone who was glad to take on an older guy and expecting nothing more than a friend to share the couch with.  After meeting a great little dog, they took their new best friend to live with them in Sea Ranch. Oh, and there will be frequent trips to the condo in the Sierras.
