PART 1
Babe is a sweet lovable 6-year-old Cairn female who came to us when her owner passed away and there was no one to care for her. One of our Club members picked her up in South Lake Tahoe. The initial examination by her vet indicated that she had a urinary infection and she was given an antibiotic. Babe eventually found a temporary home with the Walker’s awaiting her new permanent home.
Eventually
she did find that home to share with a Cairn male in American
Canyon. Several weeks after
placement her new owner called the Walkers to say that she was still
having urinary problems so she was returned temporarily. The
Walker’s vet found that Babe had a large bladder stone that needed
to be removed. Several days later the stone was removed successfully
and Babe was returned to her owner after her recovery. When
all the vet bills were totaled, the amount came to over $2,000.00.
Fortunately when we let Club members know of Babe’s plight
they came through with donations to help defray the expenses.*
Donations for Rescue, including those for dogs who are adopted,
are kept solely to defray those costs.
Babe is now doing well in her new home – a happy ending after
enduring some tough times!

* Expenses are always covered by Rescue, using the donations from adopters and, in some cases, appeals to the membership at large. As this case shows, these expenses can sometimes be very large. Rescue funds are held in a separate account from general club funds and are used only for helping dogs in Rescue.
PART 2
In the Spring of '08, Babe was living with her partner, Skye King, another Rescue through CTCNC. Their owner died. She was specific, in her will, the dogs were to come back to CTCNC Rescue. Her son was not a dog person and just wasn't sure what to do. He called. We talked. At this time, both dogs were 12 years old.In the Rescue world, there is not a large demand for Older dogs. Once they pass the 10 year old mark, placing them can be an issue. This time, there were two of them.
Answers show up out of the blue. A
note to Rescue asked about dogs, without being specific. what was
preferrred. A return call got a surprising response. The
lady wasn't looking for herself. Her parents had lost their
Cairn of many years. They were old enough that they didn't
want an active dog, They just needed a Cairn. Believe it or
not, they were thrilled to get a pair of 12 year old Cairns.
So, Babe & Skye King have a new home.
